A .300 batting average is solid but it means that you fail more than you succeed at the plate. In baseball a player is forced to overcome that failure; to recognize it for what it was, to make adjustments, to keep it from affecting him mentally and to overcome it in the next at bat.Rob and I were talking about failure yesterday. “The problem,” he said about an issue we were discussing, “is that no one wants their kid to fail. And I get that, but they are going to fail and the hard work in parenting isn’t telling them how great they are all the time but helping them overcome that failure and improve.”
